Happy 2019! Much gratitude to all of you that worked so hard at the end of 2018 standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the Lame Duck fight. We had people from 35 counties come together take part in actions in Lansing or hold phone banks, actions, and events in December across the state to make sure the people’s voice was heard. I’m incredibly proud of the way folks from different communities stood together, not just to resist, but to put forward an aspirational vision of the Michigan all of our communities deserve.
It is in that spirit that We The People’s Regional Organizing Summits are happening across the state, the weekend of February 9. Three Summits will happen simultaneously in West Michigan (Kalamazoo), Southeast Michigan (Detroit), and Northern Michigan (Bay Mill Indian Community), where grassroots organizations and leaders from each region of the state are coming together to continue building the future we deserve. If you have not yet registered for the Summit in your region, please do so here:
In other news, a big congratulations to WTP’s own Gaby Santiago-Romero for graduating with her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan. She has returned to the WTP staff as our new Policy and Research Manager. We The People’s staff will be growing over the course of 2019, so please stay tuned for job postings. We will be posting a Learning Director position soon.
